With local communities facing the possibility of water rationing, the public has the opportunity to learn water-wise gardening techniques at the San Diego Home Gardening Seminar, hosted by the Master Gardener Association.

The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at the University of San Diego.

The seminar is very popular, and classes usually fill quickly. The public can choose from several classes during each of the day's three sessions.

Many of the classes focus on water conservation in the garden, covering topics such as landscape design, succulents, and plants native to the region that require less water.

Other classes include:

• How to grow a salsa garden
• Organic gardening
• Common diseases in landscape plants
• Container gardening
• Neighbor tree problems and the law
• How to grow roses

The Master Gardener Association is a partnership between the County of San Diego and the University of California Cooperative Extension.
