Residents can use a new Web site, RecoverySDCounty.org, to find out how millions of federal stimulus dollars will be used by the County to improve everything from health programs and housing assistance to crime prevention and energy conservation.
“The County is aggressively going after federal stimulus funds to put our community to work, and this site is a clearinghouse for that information,” said Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob. “The public can track the dollars we’ve received and how we’re spending them, as well as any grants we are pursuing. I encourage residents to check back often for updates.”
The site provides the public with transparency and accountability required by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a $787-billion stimulus package approved by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama in February.
Some of the funds granted which are listed on the site include:
- Rental assistance for those who are homeless or are in danger of becoming homeless
- Employment and nutrition programs for seniors
- Repairing two aging taxiways at Gillespie Field Airport in El Cajon
- Restoring the County Probation Department participation in several multi-agency task forces to target criminal activity
- Retrofitting school buses to reduce diesel emissions to improve children’s health
The site also provides information for contractors about project opportunities, gives the public a place to report fraud, waste and abuse related to stimulus-funded projects, and features news and photos of ongoing projects.
