An estimated 14,850 gallon sewage spill occurred last night at the intersection of Del Cero Ave and Airoso Ave in the Adobe Falls area of San Diego. The spill, which was caused by debris blockage in a manhole, started 8:56 PM and ended at 10:25 PM when crews from the City of San Diego Waste Water Department removed the blockage.
None of the sewage was recovered so all of the estimated 14,850 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that leads to the San Diego River. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at the San Diego River outlet at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
