July 1, 2008
Individuals and businesses wishing to appeal their property tax assessments for the 2008-2009 tax year may do so from July 2 until Dec. 1, announced Thomas J. Pastuszka, Clerk of the County Assessment Appeals Boards.
The Assessment Appeals Boards are quasi-judicial bodies composed of three members appointed by the Board of Supervisors – and they are separate and independent from the County Assessor’s Office. The boards make their decisions based on hearings and evidence submitted from the taxpayer and the Assessor.
Applications, information booklets and staff assistance are available at the Clerk of the Board Office in the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 402, San Diego, CA 92101, and online.
To file an application, taxpayers need their parcel or tax bill number, property address and must state on the application their opinion of the property's market value. There is no fee to file an application.
Applications must be received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors Office no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, or be postmarked no later than midnight, Dec. 1.
