The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is reporting one additional death associated with the pandemic H1N1 Influenza virus. A 46-year-old woman died on July 14 while visiting San Diego. Because the individual was not a resident of San Diego County, she will not be officially included in local or state statistics. Rather, her death will be included in the H1N1 case counts in her state of residence.
San Diego County has had 680 confirmed cases of pandemic H1N1 Influenza to date, including nine deaths.
The public is encouraged to stay home from work or school if they have influenza-like illness or symptoms similar to the seasonal flu which includefever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
If an individual with underlying medical conditions is experiencing influenza-like illness or symptoms, they should contact their primary care physician in a timely manner.
