August 8, 2008
Dozens of local couples hoped to triple their good fortune by getting married on August 8, 2008, or 8-8-08. The number eight is considered good luck in the Chinese culture. County Clerk branches performed 192 wedding ceremonies and issued 195 marriage licenses on the date.
“We are always glad when we can help make a couple’s wedding day special, and today was no exception,” said Gregory Smith, County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk. “We extended hours to make sure that we could serve everyone who wanted to get married today.”
On the last “lucky” date of 7-7-07, the County Clerk’s office issued 107 marriage licenses and performed 133 ceremonies. The date fell on a Saturday, so only the Kearny Mesa branch was open on that day, but today three branches were open: the County Administration Center downtown, San Marcos and Chula Vista.
On an average day, County Clerk branches issue about 124 licenses and perform 54 ceremonies.
