The County Department of Animal Services will offer a low-cost rabies vaccination, dog license and microchip clinic on Saturday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the “Bark in the Park” event at Dusty Rhodes Dog Park in Ocean Beach.

The event is organized by the Cabrillo, Del Sur and Bahia Sur Kennel Clubs.

“It’s a convenient and affordable way to get important services for your dog. We’re glad to be a part of such a great event,” said Dawn Danielson, Director of County Animal Services.

Rabies vaccinations will be available for dogs four months or older at a cost of $6. Dog licenses, which are required by law, will also be available. Late fees will be waived for those owners who have not licensed their dog or let the license expire.

Animal Services will microchip licensed dogs for $20, which includes registration. A microchip is a small transponder permanently placed under the skin of the pet. If the pet is lost, the chip can be scanned to locate the owner through a number on the microchip.

In addition, Animal Services will hand out $25 coupons to neuter male dogs, cats and rabbits and $50 coupons to spay female dogs, cats and rabbits. The coupons can only be used by residents in areas served by Animal Services, which include the cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Santee, and the unincorporated areas of the county.

In addition to the clinic there will be agility, obedience and tracking dog demonstrations as well as games and contests for dogs and their owners.

Dusty Rhodes Dog Park is located at Nimitz and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard in the Ocean Beach. For the protection of owners and their pets, dogs must be on a leash.
