The San Diego County Department of Animal Services will be accepting adoption applications for “Sunny,” the Labrador/Retriever mix puppy that had his ears cut off in November. Applications must be received by the close of business on Saturday, Dec. 18.
“Sunny has made tremendous strides in his recovery and will soon be ready for a new forever home,” said Dawn Danielson, Director of the Department of Animal Services.
Adoption applications are available at www.sddac.com (under “Adoptions” and “Dog Adoption”). Applications can be printed and sent to the Department of Animal Services via the following:
- Fax - (619) 767-2706
- Mail - Department of Animal Services - 5480 Gaines St., San Diego, CA 92110 - Attn “Sunny Adoption”
- Dropped off at any of the three County animal shelters
With input from Sunny’s Animal Services Foster Parent, department staff will review all applications and select a family that best meets the needs of the puppy. The adoption fee for Sunny will be $69.
“There has been a tremendous interest in Sunny,” stated Danielson. “Sunny serves as a reminder that all shelters in San Diego are full of dogs and cats waiting for a new home. They all have a story to share.”
The Department of Animal Services is still investigating Sunny’s case but unless a witness comes forward, the case is likely to remain unsolved. The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for harming Sunny has been increased to $4,500. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Dan DeSousa at (619) 767-2624.
