The Department of Environmental Health has extended the water contact closure for south county beaches north to include the Imperial Beach and Silver Strand ocean shorelines due to sewage contaminated runoff from the Tijuana Estuary. Field measurements indicate northward moving ocean currents and odors near the mouth of the Tijuana Estuary. Signs warning of sewage contaminated water will remain in place until field measurements indicate the ocean water is safe for recreational use.
