An estimated 7,500 gallon sewage spill occurred this morning at the intersection of Teamwork St. and Training Street at USMC Camp Pendleton. The spill, which was caused by a blockage in a manhole, started at 7:30 AM and ended at 9 AM when crews from the USMC Camp Pendleton Facilities Maintenance removed the blockage.
None of the sewage was recovered so all the 7,500 gallons flowed into a storm drain that leads to the Santa Margarita River. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at the Santa Margarita River outlet southwards to include the entire Camp Del Mar Beachline at Camp Pendleton and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
