January 19, 2010

The Department of Environmental Health has extended the water contact closure for south county beaches north to include the Imperial Beach, Silver Strand, and Coronado ocean shorelines due to sewage-contaminated runoff from the Tijuana Estuary. River flows entering the estuary increased after rain yesterday afternoon.  Field measurements indicate northward moving ocean currents near the mouth of the Tijuana Estuary.  Signs warning of sewage contaminated water will remain in place until field measurements indicate the ocean water is safe for recreational use.

For updates on beach closure information please call the 24-hr. hotline at (619) 338-2073 or visit www.sdbeachinfo.com.
