Animal Control Officers from the County of Department of Animal Services executed a search warrant this morning on a rescue organization and found 60 dogs inside a residence on Moreno Avenue in Lakeside.
The dogs were being kept in crates that were stacked at least two high throughout the home and officers were told that the dogs were only let of the crates once a day. Many of the dogs have skin conditions, upper respiratory disease or other illnesses. In addition, most of the dogs have injuries to their feet and noses from trying to escape from their crates.

The animals are being triaged on site by veterinary staff to determine the level of injury or illness. After being evaluated, the animals will be transported to the three County animal shelters located in Carlsbad, Bonita, and San Diego for additional and continued care.
The operator of the rescue organization, Alice Via, was taken into custody at the scene and is facing numerous animal cruelty and neglect charges.
All of the animals will be treated and evaluated but will not be immediately available for adoption until the conclusion of the investigation.
