April 21, 2011
The County this week launched Spanish and Filipino-language versions of its redistricting website, a comprehensive resource designed to aid and encourage public participation in the County’s 2011 redistricting process. The launch of a Vietnamese-language site is scheduled for later this week.
Like the English-language site, the new sites include answers to frequently-asked questions about redistricting, the Redistricting Advisory Committee meeting schedule and information on how the public can submit redistricting plans and suggestions to the committee.
Materials and information for upcoming meetings will be posted first in English, with Spanish, Filipino and Vietnamese to follow after a brief delay for translation.
In addition to visiting the redistricting website, residents are encouraged to attend one of the evening Redistricting Advisory Committee meetings scheduled around the region over the next two weeks.
At the meetings, County staff will present an overview of the County’s redistricting process, and residents can address the Redistricting Advisory Committee with suggestions, plans and information about their communities.
The County’s Redistricting Advisory Committee is the citizen’s panel charged with gathering public opinion on how to adjust the County’s five supervisorial district boundaries to balance their populations. Redistricting happens every ten years, following the federal Census.
