An estimated 31,650 gallon sewage spill occurred today at the Meadowlark Water Reclamation Facility located at 7941 Corinthia Street in Carlsbad. The spill, which was caused by a break in a six-inch sewer line, was discovered at 8:00 AM and ended at 8:10 AM when crews from the Vallecitos Water District diverted flows back to the treatment plant.
Approximately 21,600 gallons of the sewage was recovered so an estimated 10,050 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that leads to the San Marcos Creek. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted along the San Marcos Creek where it crosses through the La Costa Country Club and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
