San Diego County’s Department of Planning and Land Use (DPLU) has introduced another public service to make it easier for residents to listen as the County conducts the public’s business --- online audio recordings of San Diego County Planning Commission meetings that will be posted on DPLU’s website.
“This will offer people who can’t attend Planning Commission meetings the chance to hear all the actions that the Commission takes on the public’s behalf,” said DPLU Director Eric Gibson. “It’s just another way to make sure that our County government is as transparent as possible.”
DPLU previously introduced a toll-free telephone line in 2009 that lets people listen to the Planning Commission’s meetings as they are conducted live. Now the new audio recordings, which will be posted online after meetings have ended, will allow even more people to follow the process. The recordings will be posted on the department’s Planning Commission Agendas Web page. The recordings will be segmented into sections that correspond to the individual meeting agenda items, making it easy for listeners to jump forward or move backward on the recordings to listen to specific items.
The Planning Commission is made up of seven members appointed by the County Board of Supervisors. It meets every other Friday to weigh land-use issues in San Diego County’s unincorporated communities, from developments to policies and regulations. The Planning Commission’s hearing room is located at 5201 Ruffin Road in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego.
