An estimated 3,120 gallon sewage (graywater) spill occurred last night at Oceanside Pier. The spill, which was caused by a broken graywater lateral underneath the west end of the pier from Ruby’s Restaurant was believed to have started at 1:00 PM on Thursday and ended at 12:00 AM last night when crews from the City of Oceanside Water Utilities fixed the lateral.
None of the graywater was recovered so all of the estimated 3,120 gallons flowed into the ocean underneath the west end of the pier. Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at the beach-line 500 feet north to 500 feet south of Oceanside Pier and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
