Nearly $12 Million Available for Community Improvements

The County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) will host 10 meetings throughout the county in September to explain how to apply for more than $11.9 million in federal community development and affordable housing funds.
The funds are from four US Department of Housing and Urban Development programs:

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): $4.7 million to improve low-income communities for projects such as community centers, parks, water and drainage improvements, and housing rehabilitation loans; administered by HCD for the unincorporated area, Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, Poway, and Solana Beach.

HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME): $4.2 million for affordable housing programs; administered by HCD for the unincorporated area, Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Mesa, San Marcos, Santee, and Vista.

Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG): More than $206,000 to improve the quality and number of emergency shelters and transitional facilities for homeless persons and to help at-risk families or individuals from becoming homeless; administered by HCD for the unincorporated area, Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, Poway, and Solana Beach.

Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA): $2.7 million for affordable housing and services for low-income households of people living with HIV or AIDS; administered by HCD for the entire San Diego County region.

*Public meetings in CDBG participating cities (Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, Poway, and Solana Beach) and HOME Consortium cities (Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Mesa, San Marcos, Santee, and Vista) will be held in conjunction with 2010-11 CDBG Program hearings, conducted by the respective city councils. Please contact these cities directly for their meeting schedules.
