After weeks at a County animal shelter, two severely neglected horses will now have a new home.

The horses had been abandoned and were found earlier this month. One horse is a 20-year-old named Beckett, which was discovered in a pasture in the community of Crest, near El Cajon. The other horse is a 25 year-old named Omega, found severely emaciated in Spring Valley.

“When Beckett came to our shelter, he was lame on all four legs and had old wounds and healing lacerations. Omega was very underweight and may have been a race horse in her younger days. Both have improved with treatment but will still need long-term care” said Dawn Danielson, Director of the County Department of Animal Services.

Both horses are being adopted by the Horses of Tir Na Nog, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the care of horses and other equines.

“We are extremely grateful that Horses of Tir Na Nog has agreed to provide care for Beckett and Omega,” said Danielson.

“As an organization that relies strictly on donations, they are making a significant commitment to these animals and their well-being.”
