The 2007 Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) of the Year - Environmental Leadership Award was presented to the Department of Environmental Health at the 10th Annual CUPA Conference in February.
The award is given annually to one of the 84 local Unified Programs demonstrating excellence through environmental leadership and innovation.
The Hazardous Materials Division of DEH regulates over 12,000 businesses for compliance with seven environmental programs in California including hazardous materials, hazardous waste, medical waste and underground storage tanks. DEH focuses on education and outreach to gain compliance and has an active environmental enforcement program.
The Department of Environmental Health was also honored with this award in February 2006.
