By County of San Diego Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H.
We understand that parents are concerned about H1N1 flu cases reported in our community. The County Health and Human Services Agency is working with schools, as well as state and federal health officials, to protect the public’s health.
We are partnering with schools to ensure that students and staff who are ill stay home in order to reduce the spread of the flu.
We are also educating school staff and the public about how to prevent illness.
There are simple steps you should teach your family.
- If you are sick, stay home: do not go to school and do not travel.
- Wash your hands and your children’s hands often, and use hand sanitizer.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or a tissue, and then throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
