By County of San Diego Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H.
You may be confused about what type of travel and public situations to avoid during the current H1N1 flu situation.
The public is our partner in preventing the spread of the infection in these settings. The most important advice – if you are sick, stay home: do not go to work, do not travel, and keep sick children home.
If you are healthy, it is OK to do what you would normally do, such as taking public transportation, going to public gatherings like a baseball game, or traveling.
It is important for you take other precautions to prevent illness:
- Cover your cough or sneeze with your arm or a tissue.
- Throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
- Continue to wash your hands often throughout the day with warm water and soap.
- Please know that your health is our priority, and we are working closely with state and federal health officials to continue monitoring the H1N1 flu to mitigate its spread.
