Lisa Leondis
Agricultural Commissioner / Sealer of Weights and Measures
Lisa Leondis is the County Agricultural Commissioner / Sealer of Weights and Measures. She is a native San Diegan and grew up farming avocados and persimmons on a ranch north of Escondido. She earned a degree in Agricultural Business Management from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and is a graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program. After starting her career as a pesticide use inspector in Monterey County in 1985, Lisa began working for the San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures in 1987. Over the years, she has gained experience in the Exotic Fruit Fly Detection, Pest Management, Pesticide Regulation, Plant Protection and Quarantine and Weights & Measures Programs. She also spent five years with the County Environmental Health Department - Hazardous Materials Division where she earned her Registered Environmental Health Specialist license.
She oversees a department of 155 professionals whose services range from pesticide monitoring programs to ensure farmers and growers are using pesticides safety, to egg-inspection programs to prevent food-borne illnesses, and from inspections of store scanners to gas pumps and other devices that weigh or measure consumer purchases to ensure price accuracy.
