California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) Director Brian Leahy visited San Diego County on January 8, 2013. DPR and Agriculture, Weights and Measures (AWM) share a common mission: to protect human health and the environment by regulating pesticide use and fostering reduced-risk pest management. DPR provides oversight and support for local enforcement through the County Agricultural Commissioners. Leahy visited AWM’s pesticide regulation team, toured a production nursery and a cut flower operation and spoke at a meeting of the San Diego Pest Control Operators of California. His interest in local concerns and openness in sharing his perspective help foster a collaborative relationship between AWM and related industries.
