The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has given out more than 100 Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Innovator awards to honor California organizations that emphasize pest prevention, favor least-hazardous pest management, and share their successful strategies with others. The awards provide rare public recognition to groups and individuals who are quietly revolutionizing pest management through their efforts to reduce risks associated with pesticide use.
In 1996, San Diego County Agriculture, Weights and Measures - Countywide IPM Program received an IPM Innovator Award for establishing a countywide policy on the use of IPM on all county-owned lands - the first of its kind in California.
In 2013, San Diego County Agriculture, Weights and Measures is pleased to announce DPR has chosen Gerry Weitz of Hearts Pest Control of San Diego to receive an IPM Innovator Award for his leadership in IPM. The award presentation will be held in Sacramento on March 14, 2013. For more information on the IPM Innovator Award program or to make a nomination for 2014, please visit the DPR web site at http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/pestmgt/ipminov/innovatr.htm.
