The Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures routinely conducts price verification inspections at retail locations to verify prices charged to consumers are the same as those posted or advertised.
Inspectors select 25 items throughout a retail store if the store has 3 or less automated check-out locations; 50 items if the store has 4 or more. The items' bar codes are scanned or price look-up codes are entered into the checkstand register, and the resulting charges are compared to the lowest posted or advertised prices.
The businesses listed below have been penalized or fined in the last 24 months as a result of price accuracy violations.
