Slater-Price Awards Community Projects Grants
Grants Will Fund Community Projects in Tierrasanta, North
County The San Diego County Board of Supervisors today approved Supervisor
Pam Slater-Price's request to give financial support to various non-profit
organizations that provide important community services throughout the
county. These include an anti-obesity nutrition program and several North
County charities. The funds are allocated from the county's Community
Projects grant program.
"These organizations play a vital role in making San Diego County
a better place to live," said Slater-Price. "This support will
allow non-profits in my district to meet critical needs facing the community."
Among the organizations that will receive funds are:
- Tierrasanta Community Council: $5,000 for the replacement of approximately
15 park benches in the Tierrasanta - Mission Trails Regional Park area
that were damaged or destroyed during the wildfires of 2003.
- Cardiff Botanical Society: $5,000 to assist with costs associated
with the purchase of a surf sculpture for the community of Cardiff in
the city of Encinitas.
- Community Resource Center: $5,000 for their Holiday Gift Basket program.
The center has provided domestic violence and social services to more
than 125,000 North County residents since 1979.
- North County Health Services: $2,000 to assist with costs associated
with purchasing holiday gifts and clothing for needy North County families.
North County Health Services has served North County residents' health
and dental needs for over 30 years.
- St. Clare's Home: $10,000 to assist with the purchase of supplies
for their emergency shelter and transitional homes. St. Clare's Home
is one of California's most comprehensive and effective providers of
services assisting homeless and abused mothers and their children.
- San Diego Nutrition Council: $2,000 to assist with the county's efforts
to fight childhood obesity. Supervisor Slater-Price recently launched
an effort to create a Childhood Obesity Master Plan. These funds will
be used for a "School Food Summit" to be held in March.
- Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego: $30,000 the for their annual Gingerbread
City fundraising extravaganza.
- First Night Escondido: $5,000 for the Battle of the Bands competition,
taking place during their New Year's Eve "Celebration of the Arts"
extravaganza.
- San Diego Natural History Museum: $5,000 for their 5th Annual "Fiesta
Binacional Dos Aguilas" event.
- San Diego Dance Alliance: $3,000 to assist with costs associated with
putting on the "Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival."
- San Diego Repertory Theatre: $25,000 to assist with costs associated
with promoting their upcoming season.
- Lux Art Institute: $30,000 for their children's educational programs
and services.
Supervisor Slater-Price represents the Third Supervisorial District.
