Slater-Price Awards Community Projects Grants
Grants Will Support North County Arts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Anti-Obesity Programs

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors yesterday approved Chairwoman Pam Slater-Price's request to offer financial support to various non-profit community organizations that provide services, plan events, and manage programs throughout the county. The funds are allocated from the county's Community Projects grant program.

"As chairwoman, I've made anti-obesity programs for children one of my top priorities. That's why I'm supporting the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito's new Center for Healthy Lifestyles and programs run by the Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation that will target District Three," said Slater-Price. "I'm also supporting several organizations, such as the Surfrider Foundation, that are working to keep our beaches beautiful."

Among the organizations that will receive funds are:

  • Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito: $50,000 to assist with the construction of the new Center for Healthy Lifestyles.
  • San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy: $50,000 for educational outreach programs and to purchase a new display booth to be used at various community events.
  • La Jolla Park and Recreation, Inc.: $50,000 to assist in funding an underwater interpretative map to be utilized for educational purposes.
  • Mingei Museum: $25,000 for international art exhibits and educational outreach programs at their Escondido site.
  • San Diego Symphony: $25,000 for their "Classics for the Very Young" programs taking place in Escondido and Solana Beach.
  • Surfrider Foundation: $12,500 for beach sand replenishment programs .
  • Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation: $10,000 for childhood obesity programs within District Three.
  • Boys and Girls Club of Encinitas: $10,000 to assist with the construction of their new dance studio.
  • Boys and Girls Club of Del Mar: $10,000 to purchase youth sporting equipment.
  • Center for Community Solutions: $10,000 for renovations to the Center's Escondido facility.
  • Downtown Business Association of Escondido: $10,000 to assist with costs associated with the production of promotional materials.
  • Neighborhood Healthcare of North County: $7,500 to purchase four defibrillators.
  • North County Health Services: $6,950 to purchase an automatic blood pressure unit, three exam tables, and a high-powered microscope.
  • Encinitas Rotary Club: $5,000 to offset costs associated with putting on their 14th Annual Youth Soccer Tournament.
  • San Dieguito Heritage Museum: $5,000 to assist with construction costs.
  • Del Mar Television Foundation: $4,500 to purchase equipment.
  • San Dieguito Alliance for a Drug Free Youth: $2,500 for "Project Yo."
  • San Diego Bay Keeper: $12,500 for beach sand replenishment programs.
  • Flying Leathernecks: $10,000 to fund new exhibits and aircraft upkeep at their museum.
