Ray Fernandez is currently a Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the County of San Diego and has responsibility for coordinating the County's criminal justice and law enforcement programs. He is the General Manager of the County's Public Safety Group, working closely with the Sheriff's Department, District Attorney's Office, Probation Department, Office of Emergency Services, Citizen's Law Enforcement Review Board, the Public Defender, Alternate Public Defender, Child Support, Juvenile Justice Commission, Medical Examiner and the Law Library. Together, these departments provide critical public safety services to the citizens of San Diego County and have over 6,800 employees and an annual budget of just over $1 billion.
As a key member of the County's executive team, Ray works closely with the Board of Supervisors and Chief Administrative Officer Walter F. Ekard to implement new management practices that stress customer service, accountability and team-work.
Ray was born in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Claremont McKenna College. He has worked for the State of California and the County of Riverside California. He came to San Diego County in 1999 as the Finance and Human Resources Director for the Land Use and Environment Group. Ray has also served as the Acting Director for the Air Pollution Control District.
