Meeting was called to order at 9:09 a.m.

Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinator Funding

HA1.SUBJECT: APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING

This requested action will result in the submission of an application for funding in an amount up to $46,350 for a Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program coordinator as outlined in the July 27, 1999, Notice of Funding Availability issued by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This action will also adopt a resolution approving submission of application(s) for future funding opportunities for the FSS program. If awarded, the funds will be used to continue the coordinated use of assistance under the Section 8 rental certificate and rental voucher programs with public and private resources to enable participating families to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency.
The Housing Authority of the County of San Diego currently administers an FSS program. The Housing Authority uses existing funds and staff resources to link participants with the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency. If awarded, this funding will be a new source of revenue to offset existing expenses
Funds for this request are not budgeted. The funding source is the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 8 Family Self Sufficiency program. If the application for funds is approved, this request will result in up to $46,350 current year revenue and will require the addition of no staff years or additional costs.
1. Authorize the Deputy Director of the Housing Authority of the County of San Diego to submit an application to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for funding consideration in the amount of up to $46,350 under the Notice of Funding Availability for the Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program coordinator dated July 27, 1999.
2. Authorize the Deputy Director of the Housing Authority of the County of San Diego to execute any and all necessary documents with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for receipt of FSS program coordinator funds.
3. Adopt the resolution approving submission of application(s) for future funding opportunities available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Family Self-Sufficiency program coordinator.
ON MOTION of Commissioner Horn, seconded by Commissioner Cox, the Board of Commissioners of the San Diego Housing Authority took action as recommended, on Consent, adopting Resolution No. 99-280, RESOLUTION APPROVING FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM COORDINATOR FUNDING APPLICATIONS
AYES: Cox, Slater, Horn, Bartlett, Mitchell
ABSENT: Jacob, Roberts
There being no business, the Board adjourned at 11:50 a.m., adjourned in memory of Robert H. Taylor and John Perry Howe.
