LAWNMOWER TRADE-IN DAY IS SATURDAY, JULY 29
SAN DIEGO To reduce the environmental impacts of gas-powered
mowers, Supervisor Roberts
and the Air Pollution Control District are offering San Diego County
residents a $200 voucher toward the
purchase of a battery-powered rechargeable mower if you trade-in your
smog-spewing gas-powered mower.
A trade-in event will be held on Saturday July 29, 2000 from 8:00 a.m.
to 8:00 p.m. at DeWalt, Inc. (Black & Decker dealership), located
at 4927 Convoy St. in Kearny Mesa. The County is offering 500 vouchers
on a first-come, first-served basis.
Here's how it works: bring in your gas-powered mower (it must be in
operating condition), and we'll provide you with a $200 voucher good
towards the purchase of the Black & Decker 5.0 HP Rechargeable Mower,
normally priced at $360. In addition to the voucher, Black & Decker
will provide a $20 discount, reducing the price to $140, plus tax. Cash,
check and most major credit cards will be accepted.
According to the Calfornia Air Resources Board, on an hour-for-hour
basis, the emissions of an average residential mower are equal to that
of 40 cars. In addition, gas-powered mowers emit eight times more nitrogen
oxides, 3,300 times more hydrocarbons and 5,000 times more carbon monoxide
than battery-powered mowers.
The Black & Decker 5.0 HP mower cuts up to 15,000 square feet (1/3
acre lot) per charge. It recharges up to 70% in four hours and 100%
overnight.
The offer is available to all San Diego County residents. For more
information, call Supervisor Roberts' office at (619) 531-5544.
