BOARD VOTES TO BEGIN WEBCASTING MEETINGS
SAN DIEGO - Recognizing that San Diego ranks second in the nation in
the percentage of the
population that has access to the Internet at home, the County of San
Diego will soon begin webcasting
its meetings.
The proposal, which was brought forward by Supervisor Roberts, was
approved by the Board of Supervisors on September 12, 2000.
"Enabling San Diego County residents to view live coverage of
Board meetings using the Internet will help keep them informed and engaged
about important decisions that affect their lives and shape our region's
future," said Roberts.
San Diego County is fortunate to be at the forefront of the information
technology revolution. Poised to become an industry center, the local
region already boasts a number of leading firms, from computer manufacturers
to Internet start-ups, to telecommuncations giants.
But it is San Diego County's citizens, not just our companies, who
are really on the cutting edge. According to a national survey, 64%
of San Diego adults go online on a regular basis, compared with 55%
nationwide. In addition, San Diego ranks second in the nation (behind
only the Bay Area) in the percentage of the population that has access
to the Internet at home, according to a recent report by Nielsen/Net
Ratings.
The first live webcast is scheduled to take place in late October.
