PARK RESERVATIONS MOVE TO THE PARK
Heritage Park in Old Town New Home for County Parks Reservation Center
On Wednesday, January 2, the San Diego County Department of Parks and
Recreation will
begin taking reservations for camping, picnics and weddings from their
new office at Heritage
Park. The office will be closed December 24 through January 1 for the
move.
Located in Old Town, the Reservation Center will be in the historic
Sherman Gilbert House at 2454
Heritage Park Row (the corner of Juan and Harney Streets). The new site
is quickly accessible from
both Hwy. 5 and Hwy. 8, offers better parking, and is a beautiful park
setting for both our customers and staff.
The phone number, 858-565-3600, will remain the same. A toll free number
in San Diego County is 877-565-3600.
Heritage Park is a Victorian Village on 7.8 acres and is home to six
restored houses and San Diegos first synagogue; the Temple Beth
Israel built in 1889. The Temple may be reserved for weddings, bar mitzvahs,
and other special events. Retail shops and a bed and breakfast occupy
four of the houses. The Park Ranger has an office in the little 1896
Senlis Cottage that was home to Eugene Senlis, an employee of San Diego
pioneer horticulturist Kate Sessions.
Ron Roberts, Supervisor for the Fourth District, which includes Heritage
Park, stated, All of the structures were moved to the Park over
the last 25 years in cooperation with Save Our Heritage Organisation.
They were saved and restored in keeping with the Countys commitment
to the preservation of San Diegos cultural resources. The Reservation
Center will be a nice addition to the Park and increase the publics
awareness of our Victorian heritage.
The Reservation Center is open for phone and walk in customers 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office has extended hours until
7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Reservations may be made
by phone only on Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
