ROBERTS TAKES HELM OF BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
New Chairman Will Deliver State of the County Address on February 6
SAN DIEGO -Supervisor Ron Roberts was sworn in today as the new Chairman
of the San Diego
County Board of Supervisors. He will lay out his agenda for the coming
year when he delivers his
State of the County Address on February 6, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. at the
San Diego Hall of Champions in
Balboa Park.
Prior to entering public office, Roberts was a partner in the architectural
firm SGP+A for nearly 20 years. He left the private sector when he was
elected to the San Diego City Council in 1987. Four years later, he
was re-elected.
In 1994 Roberts was elected to the Board of Supervisors. While on the
Board, Roberts has spearheaded a number of initiatives including the
creation of the Critical Hours after school program and the San Pasqual
Academy for foster kids.
Roberts was re-elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1998 with no
opposition, and will run unopposed again in 2002.
Ron and his wife of 37 years, Helene, are long-time residents of Mission
Hills. They have three grown daughters: Christine, the director of public
relations for Qualcomm; Andrea, an emergency room doctor at UCLA Medical
Center; and Deborah, a student at the University of San Diego working
on her teaching credential.
