ROBERTS RECEIVES CONGRESSIONAL "ANGEL"
AWARD
Supervisor Cox also honored for work in adoption, foster care
Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-San Diego) today presented
the Congressional
"Angels in Adoption" Award to Supervisor Ron Roberts and Supervisor
Greg Cox for their outstanding
service to the community in the areas of adoption and foster care. The
awards were presented at a
lunchtime ceremony at the San Pasqual Academy, San Diego Countys
residential campus for foster teens.
"The
San Pasqual Academy came to be because a great
many people in San Diego County made a commitment to
better the lives of our foster kids," said Supervisor Roberts.
"I am but one of those people, and it is on behalf of all the others
for whom I accept this award."
I am honored to receive this award from Congressman Cunningham,
said Supervisor Greg Cox. But the recognition should really be
given to the first group of young men and women at the San Pasqual Academy
who are working every day to succeed.
Under the leadership of Supervisors Roberts and Cox, the San Pasqual
Academy opened its doors last fall to provide a safe, stable and caring
environment for foster youth aged 14 to 18. Quickly becoming a national
model, the prestigious Academy is a one-of-a-kind residential and educational
campus designed to teach foster teens the necessary social, vocational,
and life skills they need to become productive and successful adults.
The Supervisors leadership also helped San Diego County to see
an increase in the number of foster families last year at a time when
all other counties in California experienced a drop in numbers of foster
families.
