ROBERTS UNVEILS HEALTH CLINIC ON WHEELS
New Unit Features Dental Office
Supervisor Ron Roberts today joined with representatives
from the Logan Heights Family Health Center to unveil a new
state-of-the-art mobile medical unit to serve uninsured and
underinsured children who live in San Diego's urban core.
Roberts, who secured $50,000 in county funding for the unit, heralded
the bus as a critically-important part of the region's healthcare system.
"This bus will travel to schools, libraries, parks and other areas
where kids
will receive a wide array of services, from physical exams to acute
and urgent care."
This makes two the number of mobile medical units operated by Family
Health Centers, which runs the Logan Heights Family Health Center. The
first one was launched in 1998.
Unlike the first unit, the new unit features a dental office where
staff will provide check-ups, and carry out procedures such as fillings
and crowns. The unit is also outfitted with the latest wireless technology,
which will allow staff to access medical records from hospitals.
