COUNTY PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTS SUCCESSES OF SENIOR VOLUNTEERS
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program recognizing 350,000 hours of service
Last year, the Retired and Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) saved the
San Diego community
more than $2 million. At minimum wage, that would be the amount needed
to compensate participants
of the program for the 350,000 hours of work they donated.
These special volunteers are truly rewarded with the childrens
smiles when they tutor them and the hugs of
elderly nursing home residents who consider them friends. They value
the handshakes and pats on the back from people at hundreds of different
settings around the County where they volunteer.
The Board of Supervisors salutes the many dedicated participants
in RSVP who give their time and talent to our community, said
Ron Roberts, Chairman, San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
Each year, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agencys
Aging & Independence Services turns the spotlight on volunteers
and recognizes their selfless efforts with its Sunshine Brunch, to be
held this year from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the Town
& County Convention Center in Mission Valley. The festivities will
include awards, drawings, entertainment, food and fellowship.
Cost for the brunch is $25. To register, or for more information, contact
RSVP at (858) 505-6399.
