NEW PLAYING FIELD FOR CHILDREN AT POLINSKY CENTER
Ribbon cutting features San Diego Charger Junior Seau, a top donor to
sports field
A new playing field for the children at the Countys Polinsky
Childrens Center, funded by the Child
Abuse Prevention Foundation, will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony
June 14.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors and CAPF will host the ceremony,
which features San
Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau, whose Junior Seau Foundation
was one of several donors to
CAPF for the $223,000 project. The ceremony takes place from 10 to 11
a.m. at the Polinsky Childrens
Center Sports Field, 9400 Ruffin Court, Kearny Mesa.
The new field not only meets the physical fitness needs of children
staying at the center, it is a synthetic field requiring no water, a
significant consideration in drought-threatened San Diego.
When the County and CAPF joined forces eight years ago to build
the Polinsky Center, we envisioned a place where children were safe
and cared for, but also had a place to exercise and play during their
stay, said Ron Roberts, chairman, Board of Supervisors, who with
Supervisor Greg Cox is on the Boards Polinsky Center subcommittee.
This field is a perfect addition to the center.
Bringing a safe and durable playing field to the Polinsky Center
is but one small example of CAPFs commitment to supporting abused
and neglected children, said Greg Cox, vice chairman, Board of
Supervisors. This sports field plays a central role in the lives
of children throughout their stay at the Polinsky Center and is a vital
part of the centers recreation program. I am proud to partner
with the community through CAPF and the Junior Seau Foundation to help
add this high tech turf to the Polinsky Center.
The A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Center was created in 1994 through a public-private
partnership between the County and CAPF. It provides services to children
who have been abused or neglected.
