ROBERTS HONORED FOR WORK ON SAN PASQUAL ACADEMY
Supervisor Cox also recognized by National Association of Counties
New Orleans, LA Before a crowd of more than 4,000
County officials from across the nation, Board of Supervisors
Chairman Ron Roberts today was presented with the prestigious
Courthouse Award by the National Association of Counties for his
leadership in creating the San Pasqual Academy for foster teens.
The San Pasqual Academy was the collaboration of a great many
people and some very generous donors, and it is on their behalf that
I accept this honor, said Roberts, who received the award along
with his colleague Supervisor Greg Cox.
The awards presentation was held during the 71st Annual Conference
of the National Association of Counties at the Earnest Morial Convention
Center in New Orleans.
The San Pasqual Academy, which opened in September 2001 in northern
San Diego County, provides foster teens with the academic, social and
living skills they need to become happy successful adults. The campus
currently serves 70 teens, but will eventually serve 250.
In addition to Roberts and Cox, many others have played a key role
in the development of the Academy, including Presiding Juvenile Court
Judge James Milliken, the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, as well
as countless individual and corporate donors.
