STUDENTS STAR IN DOCUMENTARY ON SAN PASQUAL ACADEMY
County Television Network Airs Half-Hour Show About New High School
for Foster Youth
A documentary about the first year of the San Pasqual Academy, a live-in
high school for foster teens,
is now airing on the County Television network.
The 30-minute program offers a rare glimpse at life at San Pasqual,
the first school of its kind in the
nation. Before San Pasqual opened in the fall of 2001, many of these
teens, who have been victims of
abuse or neglect, were bounced among dozens of different foster homes
during their adolescent years.
Many dropped out of school or became homeless after turning 18. San
Pasqual gives these teens a stable
home during high school, and a hope for a brighter future.
Throughout the school's inaugural year, CTN crews taped various aspects
of life at San Pasqual, from the classroom to the football field, and
from family meals to the prom. The program ends with the school's first
graduation ceremony, when three seniors were awarded high school diplomas.
The program features interviews with students, teachers, administrators
and staff.
The school is located in North County's scenic San Pasqual Valley east
of the Wild Animal Park. Formerly the home of the Seventh Day Adventist
Academy, the campus was renovated before reopening last year as the
San Pasqual Academy. The County of San Diego and a coalition of public
and private agencies have worked together to build and run the school.
The San Pasqual documentary will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 9
p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. CTN - owned and
operated by the County of San Diego - is available on Time Warner 22,
Adelphia 66 and Cox 19 (North) & 24 (South), although programming
is not available in all areas at all times. Additional air dates for
the San Pasqual documentary, along with CTN's complete program schedule,
can be found at www.ctn.org. CTN is funded with cable television franchise
fees. Cable subscribers who are unable to get CTN in their cable service
area are encouraged to contact their local cable company to request
that they add CTN to their channel selection.
