MAKING OUR LIBRARIES SAFE FOR KIDS
January 19, 2000

SAN DIEGO - County Supervisor Bill Horn announced today that he plans to present a Pilot Program to protect children from Internet Pornography at County Libraries. Horn was attending an Internet Pornography Seminar hosted by Citizens for Community Values of San Diego when he went public with the program.

"Everyday hundreds of children access the Web from County Library computers," said Supervisor Horn. "The Internet is a marvelous tool for students and new technology filters can help create a safer environment for our children to learn."

Supervisor Horn, who has been an ardent supporter of Libraries, stated that he is going to ask the Board to approve a Pilot Program that can eventually be rolled out to all County Libraries.

"Right now the policy is to have our librarians police children who are surfing the web. I would like to take it a step further," continued Horn. "You wouldn’t send your children to the park with a pedophile, why send them to the Library with a pornographer!"
