SAN DIEGO - County Supervisor Bill Horn announced today that he has endorsed Proposition 22, the statewide initiative to establish in California, that a marriage be only between a man and a woman.
"Californians do not want others states telling us what to do," said Supervisor Horn. "Among other things, this is as much of a state’s rights issue, as it is a moral issue."
While other initiatives on the March ballot will read like novels, Proposition 22 is the easiest initiative to understand in recent history. The entire initiative reads, "Only a marriage between a man and a woman are valid or recognized in California."
"The survival of a healthy and stable society, is dependant on the traditional family as the emotional and physical cornerstone of our civilization," continued Horn.
Though the initiative would only add 14 words to state statutes, those words would be enough to prohibit legal recognition of homosexual marriages performed in other states. Currently, the state does not recognize marriages of same-sex partners, but as other states like Vermont move closer to allowing it, Supervisor Bill Horn and other conservative politicians have moved to preempt the possibility of such unions in California.
"I think this may be the only time in my life, I have agreed with President Clinton," concluded Supervisor Horn. "You may recall, that in 1996, the president signed the GOP-sponsored Defense of Marriage Act."
