VALLEY
CENTER COMMUNITY MEETINGS TO FOCUS ON REVITALIZATION
February 7, 2000
San Diego – The Department of Planning and Land Use in cooperation with the Valley Center Revitalization Advisory Committee, is encouraging residents and business people to attend two important community meetings. The meetings are an opportunity for citizens to provide direction to the Advisory Committee and to participate in the community planning process.
“A successful planning document is one that comes up from the community”, said Supervisor Bill Horn, District Five who will be attending the meeting. “The plan must be based on and supported by citizen participation.”
The two meetings will have different topics of discussion. Attendees at the first meeting will be asked to take a stroll through downtown Valley Center and to identify desirable aspects of the community character – in the year 2015! The second meeting will build on the themes developed in the first meeting, and participants will be asked to sharpen the focus and to provide greater detail. People are encouraged to attend both meetings to assure continuity.
“This is a chance for residents to decide how best to accommodate change, and at the same time, preserve the unique character of life in Valley Center,” said Maxx Stalheim, Project Manager. Mr. Stalheim has also facilitated the county revitalization efforts in Lakeside and Fallbrook. The information provided as a result of the two meetings will be used by the Advisory Committee to begin identifying community needs. The information will also help establish project goals and objectives.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 12th and 19th, and plan on attending the meetings held in the Valley Center Community Hall, 28246 Lilac Road. The first meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. on February 12, 2000. The second meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m., and will be held on February 19, 2000.
The meetings are part of an ongoing planning process. Public participation will also involve a mail-out survey to approximately 8,000 residents.
If you would like to know more about the revitalization course of action, call Mr. Stalheim at 1-800-411-0017, or send email to mstalhpl@co.san-diego.ca.us
