Fallbrook - San Diego County Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn announced today that the County Board of Supervisors will take steps to ensure that the road in front of William H. Frazier School is safer. Gum Tree Lane runs right in front of the school and on Saturday, December 18, 1999, a First Grade teacher was killed while trying to turn into the school’s parking lot.
"Gum Tree Lane between Stage Coach Lane and Hamilton Lane will now have a 35 MPH speed limit posted for non-school hours,” said Supervisor Horn. “We need to minimize the chance of another traffic tragedy occurring at this school.”
Along with the area being posted at 35 MPH during non-school hours and 25 MPH during school the Supervisors today certified this stretch of road for radar enforcement. The request to establish a formal speed limit was submitted by Fallbrook Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Jeffries.
"The posted lower speed limit and the increased chance of receiving a citation from a radar equipped sheriff should help dampen vehicle speeds in front of the school,” concluded Supervisor Bill Horn.
