San Diego - San Diego County Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn announced that the Board of Supervisors has proclaimed today, Bruce Binkowski Day throughout the County. Bruce Binkowski recently retired from his stadium job where he announced the San Diego Padres without missing a game for 1,101 consecutive home stands.
"Bruce has provided an outstanding service for San Diego and Padres fans the last fourteen years," stated Supervisor Horn. "I missed his familiar voice at the Home Opener this year."
Binkowski also worked as the announcer for the San Diego State Aztecs football and basketball games, and for other San Diego sports teams including the Chargers, Clippers, Soccers, Gulls, Mariners, the Sails, Friars and as the morning sportscaster for KOGO radio.
Helping Supervisor Bill Horn with the presentation was the County Board’s other big baseball fan, Supervisor Ron Roberts. Binkowski accompanied by his wife Christina, also received a baseball signed by all five Supervisors along with the official County Proclamation.
At the conclusion of the presentation, Binkowski lent his trademark phrase for the County one last time, "Get your pens, pencils and scorecards ready . . . it’s lineup time."
