COUNTY SUPERVISORS LOWER AND DELETE FEES AT THE COUNTY

June 12, 2000

San Diego - San Diego County Fifth District Supervisor Bill Horn announced today that the County is deleting and lowering some fees for certain public services. The resolution that passed the Board of Supervisors yesterday will reduce 11 fees charged the public, due to a consolidation of the previous independent Recorder/Clerk and Assessor information centers.

"This is an example of the County providing services faster, cheaper and better," stated Supervisor Horn. "By consolidating offices and utilizing the newest technology the County is on the cutting edge of providing services and cutting prices to the public."

The Assessor/Recorder/Clerk has also been authorized to no longer charge fees for two items, Condo Cuts and Regular Segregation. The fee for filing a Fictitious Business Name was slightly raised from $13 to $17, but by comparison neighboring counties, Orange and Riverside charge $31, Imperial charges $20 and San Bernardino charges $29. Fictitious Business Names are still a bargain in San Diego County.

The County is also offering two new services. The Clerk of the Board offers Passport services and patrons will be able to have ID and Passport photos taken at the County Administration Center. The Clerk of the Board currently issues about 2,500 Passports a year. Also color wall maps will be available due to the County acquiring a full color plotter that makes the tasks technologically affordable.
