Ramona Intergenerational Community Campus proposal and report back to
the Board with recommendations in 60 days.

This action requires no additional staff years.
BACKGROUND:
Last January, in my State of the County Address, I set as a priority the
need to create more opportunities to link seniors with children in our
communities. Both youth and seniors can learn from each other. It's a
way of connecting the past with the future with children teaching seniors
the world of technology and seniors teaching children basic skills, core
values and promoting the development of good character.
For the past nine
months, the community of Ramona has been working on the concept of an
intergenerational community campus. The Ramona Intergenerational Community
Campus (RICC) steering committee, with representatives from the senior
center, library, Boys & Girls Club, Head Start, revitalization group,
health organizations, and businesses, has developed a conceptual plan
of what they believe will satisfy the needs of the community of Ramona,
now and in the future. The plan proposes to house facilities such as a
new library, senior/teen center, urgent care, fitness and adult day centers,
in addition to hotel/banquet room, and common areas.
The RICC steering
committee has submitted this proposal to the County in hopes of a public/private
partnership. Today's action will begin the process of developing a RICC
by directing the Chief Administrative Officer to conduct an analysis of
the RICC proposal and make recommendations on how to best proceed.
I urge your support.
Respectfully submitted,
DIANNE JACOB
Chairwoman
