TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBJECT: BASEBALL FIELD IMPROVEMENTS FOR LAKESIDE NATIONAL LITTLE
LEAGUE
SUMMARY:
Overview
Today's proposal will provide funds for improvements at Lakeside National
Little League park at Luther Clark Field in Lakeside.
Recommendations:
SUPERVISOR DIANNE JACOB: Find that the project is exempt from the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15304.
Allocate $25,050 from the District Two Community Projects fund (0262)
to the Lakeside National Little League for the purchase of a scoreboard,
popcorn machine, snow cone machine, and aluminum bleachers at the Lakeside
National Little League park. Authorize the Chief Financial Officer to
execute an agreement with the Lakeside American Little League, establishing
terms for receipt of the funds described above.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of the proposed recommendation is $25,050. The funding
source is FY 2001-2002 District Two Community Projects (0262). This action
will result in the addition of no staff years and no future costs.
BACKGROUND:
Lakeside National Little League has over half a century of baseball history
at Luther Clark Field. Unfortunately, so do the league's dilapidated facilities.
Lakeside National Little League has launched a fundraising campaign to
make essential repairs, and volunteers for the group have shown a willingness
to contribute their time and skills to repair the existing snack bar and
plant seed on two fields to get the league through another season. Still,
Lakeside National Little League's needs far outweigh its resources. Funding
is needed to replace unsafe bleachers, buy an electronic scoreboard, and
purchase two revenue-generating snack machines.
Today's action, if
approved, will provide funding for a new scoreboard, snow cone machine,
popcorn machine, and aluminum bleachers to jump-start Lakeside National
Little League's capital improvements project.
I urge your support!
Respectfully submitted,
DIANNE JACOB
Supervisor, Second District
