TO: Board of Supervisors
SUBJECT: Pines Fire Relief Fund
SUMMARY:
Reference
On July 29, 2002 a fast spreading wild fire rapidly consumed hundreds
of acres just east of Julian. In just three days, the Pines Fire had destroyed
9 homes, 12 outbuildings, 8 vehicles and 3 RV's. By then, over 18,000
acres have been consumed by the Pines Fire at a cost of $2.3 million to
fire agencies. The community of Julian responded by volunteering their
time, contributing food and supplies, and opening up their homes to neighbors.
In addition, Julian has continued to help victims by establishing an emergency
relief fund. The financial aid will go towards food, clothing, temporary
shelter and structural repair.
This action will
appropriate $20,000 into the Pines Fire Relief Fund to help victims of
the Pines Fire.
Recommendation
SUPERVISOR DIANNE JACOB
Allocate $20,000 from the District Two Community Projects fund (0262)
to the Pines Fire Relief Fund to help victims of the Pines Fire.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of the proposed recommendation is $20,000. The funding
source is the FY 2002-2003 District Two Community Projects (0262). This
action will result in the addition of no staff years and no future costs.
