SUBJECT: SUPPORT FOR THE SANTEE HIGH TECH BUSINESS CAMPUS
SUMMARY:
Issue/Reference:
Approval of this Board letter will express the Board of Supervisors' support
for establishing a high tech business campus in the Santee Town Center.
Recommendation:
SUPERVISOR JACOB
1. Support the establishment of a high tech business campus in the Santee
Town Center.
2. Direct the Chief
Administrative Officer to work with the City of Santee on the processing
of an high tech/business campus overlay and to develop a plan for attracting
high tech development in the Santee Town Center.
Fiscal Impact:
If approved, this request will result in no additional costs or staff
years.
BACKGROUND
There are approximately 325 acres of undeveloped County-owned land located
in the Santee Town Center redevelopment area. On June 9, 1999, the Santee
City Council voted unanimously to direct their staff to process an amendment
to the Santee Town Center Specific Plan to create a high tech business
campus overlay for 106 acres within the Town Center. This overlay will
provide a unique opportunity to locate a high tech business campus right
in the heart of Santee next to the Santee Transit Center.
The current economic
conditions along with significant interest from the business community
makes this an ideal time for the City of Santee and the County to move
forward together as partners to begin the process of developing this site
in a focused manner. Developing this property as a high tech business
campus will provide us with another tool to retain high paying jobs and
attract new high tech companies to the region.
I urge your support.
Respectfully Submitted,
DIANNE JACOB
Supervisor, Second District
