Lawnmower Trade-In Day Set for May 19th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 16, 2007
County Supervisor Ron Roberts’ 8th Annual Lawnmower Trade-In Event will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2007 beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the north parking lot of the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway. County residents who trade in their gas-powered mower will be able to purchase a Black & Decker CMM1000 cordless, battery-rechargeable mower, normally sold for $449, for only $150 including tax. The County will only accept gas mowers that are in working condition.
Four hundred mowers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. While the event begins at 8:00 a.m, County officials suggest that participants arrive by at least 7:00 a.m.
Please drain mowers of gas and oil. Participants must show proof of San Diego County residency. Cash, check or credit card will be accepted.
“This program is just one of the ways that the County of San Diego is working to reduce air pollution throughout our region,” said Supervisor Roberts, who initiated the trade-in program in 2000. Since then, more than 3,500 gas-powered mowers have been replaced by cleaner, battery-rechargeable mowers.
The gain for our communities is a reduction of over 15 tons per year of volatile organic compounds emissions. This is the equivalent to the hourly emissions from approximately 140,760 late model automobiles.
